Campground Overview
About Ackley Lake State Park
Ackley Lake State Park defies expectations of a typical Montana campground by combining rustic simplicity with stunning views of the Little Belt and Snowy Mountains, all centered around a sparkling 160-acre reservoir. Located just five miles south of Hobson, Montana, this primitive camping destination offers tranquil surroundings with minimal amenities but significant natural charm.
The park features 26 rustic campsites, with 15 of them equipped with picnic shelters, fire rings, and tables, while the remaining sites provide picnic tables and fire rings. With no electricity, potable water, or garbage services, this campground is ideal for those seeking an off-grid experience. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities, from fishing in the well-stocked lake, which hosts species such as rainbow and brown trout, to boating, swimming, and wildlife viewing. Two boat ramps and a seasonal dock make accessing the lake convenient, and the park's two vault toilets offer basic facilities.
Situated just a short drive from charming Hobson and approximately 30 minutes from Lewistown, Ackley Lake State Park is a superb choice for fishing excursions, weekend getaways, and even winter ice-fishing trips. The unspoiled views of surrounding mountain ranges and vivid sunsets add to the serene atmosphere, making this destination a haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
