Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the campground features extensive amenities tailored for group use. Visitors will find two large covered ramadas, 12 picnic tables made from beautiful fieldstone and jasper, three central grills, a covered food preparation area, and a designated campfire site. Vault toilets and trash services are available, though potable water is not provided. The site also includes spaces for games such as volleyball and horseshoes, enhancing its appeal for group gatherings.
The campground’s location is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. Nearby hiking and mountain biking trails span more than 48 miles, including the adjacent Cave Creek Trailhead and Bronco Trailhead, which accommodates equestrians. Just seven miles south, the Sears-Kay Ruin offers an intriguing glimpse into ancient Native American history, while a short drive leads to Humboldt Mountain, known for its stunning panoramic views. The rugged last stretch of the access road requires caution, but the adventure is rewarded with peaceful isolation and breathtaking desert vistas.
