Campground Overview
About Cherry Valley Campground
How often do you find a campground that combines forested privacy with direct access to a tranquil mountain lake? Cherry Valley Campground, perched above Cherry Lake in the Stanislaus National Forest, offers just that—an immersive experience in the rugged beauty of California’s Sierra Nevada. With towering mixed conifers and the shimmering expanse of the largest lake in the forest nearby, this destination is ideal for those who value seclusion, natural beauty, and outdoor adventure.
The campground features 41 single-family sites and 5 spacious double-family sites, all equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and bear-proof food storage lockers. Vault toilets are available, but potable water is limited due to drought conditions, so bring your own. While the sites are well-suited for both tent campers and RVs, the 23-mile narrow and winding road leading in makes it less ideal for larger trailers. Cherry Lake is accessible by a short hiking trail and offers excellent fishing opportunities for species such as rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, as well as opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and other water sports.
Located roughly an hour from Groveland and about 2.5 hours from Yosemite National Park, Cherry Valley Campground is an excellent base for day trips to explore the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite’s northwestern perimeter. Whether you’re seeking a weekend retreat, a stopover on the way to Yosemite, or an extended wilderness vacation, this campground provides a serene yet adventurous escape.
