About Chicot State Park
Is Chicot State Park the hidden gem of Louisiana camping experiences? With its sprawling 6,400 acres of lush woodlands, proximity to the serene 2,000-acre Lake Chicot, and diverse range of activities, the campground offers an immersive escape into nature while catering to both relaxation seekers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The campground features 198 sites with water and electrical hookups for tents, RVs, and trailers, as well as 18 deluxe cabins and a group lodge. Amenities include hot showers, flush toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and a dump station. Unique highlights include an 8-mile canoe trail, miles of hiking and biking trails, excellent fishing opportunities, and a splash pad for kids. Privacy varies by site, with the North Landing being more RV-friendly due to its level paths and spacious layouts, while South Landing provides lake views and denser tree coverage. Primitive camping along the lake is available for adventurous hikers seeking solitude.
Located just seven miles from Ville Platte, Louisiana, the park is centrally positioned between Alexandria and Lafayette. Nearby, the Louisiana State Arboretum, a 600-acre beech-magnolia forest within the park’s boundaries, offers a tranquil setting for birdwatching and exploring native plant species. From paddling through cypress-studded waters to catching trophy bass or cycling challenging trails, Chicot State Park seamlessly blends adventure and serenity, making it an ideal destination for everything from weekend getaways to extended nature retreats.
