About Glade Creek Campground
How does a campground redefine the idea of seclusion while still offering access to remarkable outdoor experiences? Glade Creek Campground, located within the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve near Beaver, West Virginia, delivers just that. This small, primitive campground is set amidst dense forest alongside the New River, offering visitors a serene escape where the sounds of Glade Creek and the occasional train set the stage for a tranquil retreat.
With only six walk-in tent sites and five drive-in sites for small to medium RVs or campers, the campground is intentionally low-impact and rustic. There are no hookups, running water, or cell service, but the essentials are covered with picnic tables, fire rings, and clean vault toilets. A boat ramp and proximity to the Glade Creek Trailhead make it ideal for those eager to paddle the New River or explore a scenic 5.6-mile trail featuring trout fishing streams, small waterfalls, and rich remnants of the region’s coal mining history. The gravel road leading to the campground is well-maintained but can be a bit rugged, rewarding those willing to venture off the beaten path with a peaceful, crowd-free experience.
Just 20 minutes from Beckley, the area offers access to the scenic wonders of the New River Gorge while maintaining an atmosphere of isolation. Glade Creek Campground provides nature enthusiasts with an authentic connection to the Appalachian wilderness, making it perfect for day hikes, weekend getaways, or primitive camping adventures steeped in natural beauty.
