Campground Overview
About Glen Elder State Park
Perched along the sprawling north shores of Waconda Lake, Glen Elder State Park offers a serene retreat where expansive views of one of Kansas’ largest reservoirs meet an impressive mix of outdoor amenities. Whether drawn to its rich history, abundant wildlife, or unparalleled lake access, this campground uniquely combines natural beauty with modern facilities, making it a premier destination for relaxation and adventure alike.
The park features three campgrounds, including Kanza, Cheyenne, and Kaw, each equipped with utility hookups, concrete pads, fire rings, and picnic tables. Campers can enjoy hot showers and restroom facilities from spring through fall. For a more rustic experience, over 300 primitive sites are available. The state-of-the-art marina, group shelters, children’s playground, and direct lake access for fishing, boating, and swimming enhance the experience. Set against a landscape of prairie grasses and wildflowers, the scene includes cottonwood and honey locust trees, with frequent wildlife sightings ranging from deer to migratory waterfowl.
Located just outside the town of Glen Elder and 12 miles west of Beloit, the park’s proximity to the 12,500-acre Glen Elder Reservoir offers nearly unlimited water recreation. Historical and cultural attractions like the replica Waconda Springs and Waconda Heritage Village deepen the connection to the area’s Native American and geological legacy, while nearby trails and scenic overlooks provide opportunities for hiking and photography.
