Campground Overview
About Pettit Lake Campground
Guarded by the striking peaks of the Sawtooth Mountains, Pettit Lake Campground offers a serene escape with its crystalline waters and easy access to some of the area’s most celebrated hiking trails. This rustic campground provides a tranquil and less crowded alternative to nearby Redfish Lake, making it an appealing choice for nature enthusiasts seeking solitude, scenic beauty, and adventure.
The campground comprises 9 single sites and 3 double sites, accommodating both tents and smaller RVs. Each site is equipped with essential amenities, including picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and potable water sourced from a hand-pump well. While the sites are somewhat open and closely spaced, the breathtaking vistas surrounding the lake make up for the lack of privacy. The area is a hub for outdoor activities, with swimming, kayaking, and canoeing on Pettit Lake, as well as fishing for trout. The Tin Cup Trailhead, located at the north end of the campground, provides access to the stunning Sawtooth Wilderness, including picturesque destinations like Alice and Farley Lakes.
Conveniently located about 21 miles south of Stanley, Idaho, Pettit Lake Campground is just two miles off Highway 75 on Forest Service Road 208. Campers are within a 30-minute drive of amenities in Stanley, where supplies like gas, food, and propane are available. The secluded setting, pristine alpine surroundings, and gateway to some of Idaho's best hiking make this campground ideal for weekend getaways and stopovers for longer backcountry adventures.
