Campground Overview
About Reyes Peak Campground
Perched at an impressive elevation of 7,000 feet on Pine Mountain's northern slope, Reyes Peak Campground offers campers breathtaking views that stretch from the rugged expanse of the Cuyama Badlands to the shimmering Pacific Ocean, and even to the distant Channel Islands on clear days. This small, secluded campground defies the expectations of bustling campgrounds with its serene atmosphere and immersive connection to nature, making it an ideal choice for those seeking tranquility and remote beauty.
The campground features just six tent-only sites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, ensuring a simple yet comfortable stay amid towering Jeffrey pines, sugar pines, and ponderosa pines. There are no water supplies at the site, so visitors must bring their own. Vault toilets are available, maintaining the campground's minimalistic charm while providing basic functionality. With its high elevation and isolation, Reyes Peak Campground also provides an excellent stargazing opportunity, thanks to the absence of light pollution.
Located within Los Padres National Forest, the campground serves as a gateway to numerous hiking adventures. The Reyes Peak Trail and Raspberry Spring Trail are among the highlights, offering panoramic views and intimate encounters with local wildlife. A short drive south along Highway 33 leads to the Piedra Blanca trailhead, where you can explore incredible rock formations and the serene Rose Valley Falls. The area’s seasonal bloom of wildflowers, including lupine and scarlet bugler, adds vibrant color to the landscape during spring and summer.
Reyes Peak Campground lies approximately 15 miles north of Ojai, California, providing access to essential supplies without compromising its remote allure. Its rustic simplicity and awe-inspiring surroundings make it perfect for day trips, weekend escapes, or extended vacations for those who thrive on solitude and natural splendor.
