About Sheep Trail Campground
Surrounded by the majestic Sawtooth Mountain Range, Sheep Trail Campground offers a serene escape in a picturesque valley near Stanley, Idaho. This intimate campground, located at an elevation of 6,670 feet, is defined by its partial shade from mixed pine trees, vibrant summer wildflowers, and a tranquil creek running alongside it. Ideal for exploration and tranquility, it provides access to outstanding hiking and biking trails, including the renowned Idaho Centennial Trail, as well as opportunities for wildlife observation in nearby Elk Meadow.
Located just 10 miles from Stanley along State Highway 21, Sheep Trail Campground is part of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. It features a single group site that can host up to 40 people, which is divided into four smaller sites available on a first-come, first-served basis when the group site is not reserved. Vault toilets, drinking water, and paved access enhance the camping experience. Within a 30-minute drive, highlights include Redfish and Stanley Lakes, offering activities like fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and boating, as well as the pristine Salmon River, known for its excellent trout fishing.
