Campground Overview
About Teal Lake Campground
What distinguishes Teal Lake Campground in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest is its serene lakeside setting, high-altitude atmosphere, and access to a range of outdoor activities. Perched at 9,200 feet in elevation near a 50-acre lake, this campground offers exceptional trout fishing, non-motorized boating, and proximity to wilderness hiking and off-highway vehicle trails. Its natural beauty is further enhanced by a mixed pine and fir forest, though some areas have been thinned due to pest activity, creating a mix of shaded and sunny campsites.
Teal Lake Campground features 17 first-come, first-served campsites plus a group site accommodating up to 30 people, making it suitable for both small getaways and larger gatherings. Each campsite includes basic amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and potable water, with vault toilets available on-site. Though minimal in infrastructure, its sweeping lake views and opportunities for wildlife viewing, including sights of elk, moose, and black bears, contribute to its allure.
Conveniently located about 25 miles west of Walden, Colorado, the campground is an excellent base for exploring nearby recreational gems, including the Mount Zirkel Wilderness and Grizzly-Helena Trail. Whether you seek a peaceful weekend escape or an active nature-filled retreat, Teal Lake Campground seamlessly delivers a classic Colorado mountain camping experience.
