Campground Overview
About Temple Mountain Townsite Campground
Imagine camping at the foot of one of Utah’s most remarkable geologic features—the San Rafael Reef—where rugged red and white rock formations tower above a blend of desert solitude and adventure. Temple Mountain Townsite Campground is a simple yet strategic basecamp offering access to breathtaking landscapes, rich mining history, and nearby slot canyon trails like Little Wild Horse Canyon.
This first-come, first-served Bureau of Land Management campground features nine individual sites and one group site, each equipped with fire rings and picnic tables. Vault toilets are available, but campers need to bring their own water and pack out all trash. The grounds are ideal for both tents and RVs, while a large shade structure enhances the group site. Expect quiet days surrounded by spectacular desert scenery and nights filled with stunning stargazing opportunities.
Located just two miles from the iconic Goblin Valley State Park, the campground also situates visitors near Temple Mountain's historic uranium mines and pictograph panels. Adventurous explorers can tackle the Behind-the-Reef Road or hike into the San Rafael Reef Wilderness, while those seeking softer pursuits can enjoy the awe-inspiring slot canyons and photographic vistas that define the region.
