About Wapiti Campground
A dramatic convergence of rugged cliffs, lush cottonwood groves, and the sound of the North Fork Shoshone River defines Wapiti Campground, located 30 miles west of Cody, Wyoming. Its prime location along the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway places it between Yellowstone National Park's east entrance (just 22 miles away) and the charming offerings of Cody, making it a gateway for both tranquility and adventure.
Situated at an elevation of 6,000 feet within the Shoshone National Forest, the campground boasts 41 sites, 21 of which include electric hookups. Each site is thoughtfully equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and food storage locker. Visitors enjoy essential amenities like vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection. Wildlife enthusiasts revel in frequent sightings of elk, deer, bald eagles, and even grizzly bears, while anglers take advantage of the North Fork Shoshone River, a renowned spot for trout fishing. Hiking trails from the campground provide access to the scenic Washakie Wilderness, deepening the connection to the surrounding landscape.
Wapiti Campground's proximity to landmarks such as the historic Pahaska Tepee (home to Buffalo Bill’s hunting lodge) and Cody’s Buffalo Bill Historical Center ensures both natural and cultural enrichment.
