Campground Overview
About Samuel P. Taylor State Park
Can you imagine a campground where majestic old-growth redwoods soar overhead, Lagunitas Creek winds gently nearby, and the air is filled with the earthy scent of ancient forest? Samuel P. Taylor State Park in Marin County, California, offers a camping experience that feels like a serene escape into nature's embrace, yet is conveniently located only 15 miles west of San Rafael.
The campground features two distinct areas—Creekside Camp and Orchard Hill—with a total of 61 sites, including family, group, and hike/bike options. Nestled in the redwood forest, each site is equipped with essentials like picnic tables, fire rings, and food lockers and is within proximity to clean restrooms with coin-operated hot showers. Orchard Hill offers hilltop seclusion, while Creekside Camp sits closer to Lagunitas Creek, perfect for enjoying the soothing sound of water. Cabins are also available for more rustic comfort, complete with electricity and heaters. Although there is no RV hookup, potable water and ample facilities are provided. However, the dump station is currently non-operational.
Located in over 2,700 forested acres, the park offers plenty to explore, including the popular Pioneer Tree Trail winding through redwoods and the Cross Marin Trail, an easy 3.5-mile bike path following an old railway. Wildlife watchers may spot black-tailed deer or even witness salmon spawning in the creek during the rainy season. Beyond the camping area, nearby attractions such as Point Reyes National Seashore and Mount Tamalpais are just a short drive away, making this location ideal for weekend getaways or longer nature-filled retreats.
