Campground Overview
About Walker Pass Campground
Perched at an elevation of 5,000 feet in the foothills of the Southern Sierra Nevada, Walker Pass Campground offers a serene retreat where rugged desert terrain converges with panoramic mountain views. This compact, semi-primitive campground is a key stopping point for Pacific Crest Trail hikers, attracting adventurers seeking a peaceful respite amid pinyon pines and Joshua trees, with easy trail access and a tranquil atmosphere perfect for stargazing or unwinding after a day of hiking.
The campground features 11 walk-in tent sites and two car camping spots, all equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Equestrians are welcomed with hitching racks and corrals. While its simplicity adds to the charm, essential services are limited—there is no potable water, so visitors must plan accordingly. Highway 178 provides convenient access, and while some road noise is present, it fades into the background of the vast, open surroundings. Beyond the campsite, explore the nearby Pacific Crest Trail and the Kiavah Wilderness Area, or venture 30 minutes to Lake Isabella for fishing and boating.
Walker Pass Campground’s unique location and minimally developed facilities make it ideal for quiet overnight stays, staging backpacking trips, or connecting with nature in an uncrowded, authentic desert-mountain environment.
